Class 3 Newsletter. January 2009
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! This half term’s whole school topic is ‘Treasures’. As a a major aspect of this Mrs. Clements will be covering Ancient Egypt for History and for Art the subject will be Pattern making. This will be for the whole term. Mrs. Graham will be covering ‘Rocks and Soils’ in Science which may include a visit to the graveyard at the church to look at the various stone types there. R.E. will be looking into the Bible and in particular Jesus’ life and teaching
Mrs. Clements will continue with Big Writing in English and the children will particularly be looking at powerful vocabulary and connectives. Literature Circles will start next week after the children have made their choice of books this week. Although there is a lot of preparation involved with the Literature Circles, the children can have help with the reading of the section of the book. The important part is being able to discuss that part of the book. Spellings will go home every Monday and will be tested the following week.
Maths continues as last term. The children will still have tables to learn and prepare each week and they should know which table they have elected to learn. They will also have K.I.R.F.s (Key Instant Recall Facts) to practise daily. We can’t emphasise enough the importance of this learning for them all.
The children all did very well in the swimming pool last term and gained many badges. P.E. will continue on Tuesdays with Mrs. Clements and this half term it will be apparatus work. Games will usually be on Fridays but the weather may cause us problems and we may need to change at the last minute so it is VITAL that the children have their P.E. kit in school at all times. We will try and do outdoor games but this may be in very cold conditions so the children may wear appropriate warm clothing e.g. jogging tops and bottoms, trainers and spare socks, hats and gloves.
If you have any queries or questions please do pop in and have a chat.
